How did you attract and address your audience?
Below is a version of our OTS that has annotations along side explaining some of the shots, locations, music and actors we used to appeal to the audience we were aiming for (16-18 year olds+).
Below are all of the annotations displayed in the video:
Our title 'Dinner For Two' was used to hint at
the fact of multiple being involved in the dinner
despite the previous shots.
Showing one man (the chef) enter the room/kitchen.
Our music is upbeat and
has a fast tempo that contradicts
the reality scenes (the cannibal cooking with human meat).
Our choice of location was a kitchen,
this would be seen as a safe location by the audience.
This was inspired by 'Hannibal' and locations used in it.
Lots of short shots are cut
at a fast pace to keep the audience
engaged with the scenes.
We use the same editing filter/technique
multiple times to show disorientation
and the transition from what is imagined and what is real.
We had a stereotypical vulnerable looking teenager
be the victim for our OTS
so that is appeals to the male audience.
The Chef/killer is not a typical killer
as they do not conform to the stereotype
of one that may conceal their face and/or carry or have a
significant signature weapon.
The music cuts out at this point
just before the murder of the victim
to show the solidarity of the killer and victim.
We used a knife/meat tenderiser as a killing weapon
as would be suspected of a murder happening in a kitchen location.
